Nigeria's Health Minister Plays Doctor
The Minister of Health in Nigeria, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu at the weekend, put down the pen and papers, and donned the surgical robes to take part in a surgery on polio victims in Gwagwalada, Abuja,.
The minister joined 26 Indian doctors at the University of Abuja to perform corrective surgeries on 400 polio victims under the auspices of Rotary International, an event which would cover the next 10 days.
The minister, an orthopedic surgeon, arrived at the teaching hospital at about 3.p,m and was welcomed by the team of India and Nigerian doctors who were involved in the Rotary Corrective Polio Project. Immediately he arrived, one of the India doctors ushered in him, announcing: “The theatre is ready, the patient is ready, and everything is ready for your operation.”
Chukwu was cheered by his entourage as he appeared moments later from the theatre dressed in surgical garments and announced that the operation was successful.

We thank the minister for taking part in and reliving his days as a surgeon, however, it seems he's better disposed to the role, as against that of a government bureaucrat / politician.
He should stick to making children happy, 'cos as far as the happiness of the Nigerian public is concerned - vis-a-vis healthcare - it's an alien concept.
If he'd done his official job well, there would have been no need for him to don the surgical robes in the first place - Polio would've been eradicated in Nigeria.
Maybe that's what he should concentrate on, instead of playing to the gallery of sycophants who could care less about what the true role of a Minister of Health should be in a Developing country.
