When A Royal Pregnancy Can Kill. . .
The two Australian DJs who put in the prank call to the hospital where Kate Middleton was hospitalized for acute morning sickness pretending to be the Queen, have expressed sadness at the death of the nurse in an interview to two Australian networks today.
Mel Greig and Michael Christian, the two DJs who made the prank call and impersonated Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles were visibly shaken and grief stricken as they expressed sadness and regret at the death of the nurse who took the call and transferred it to Kate Middleton's ward, Jacintha Saldanha.
Saldanha was found dead after apparently committing suicide. Mel Greig and Michael Christian, who were impersonating Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles, called the hospital Tuesday and gained information about the condition of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge -- which they subsequently played on air.
"First and foremost we would like to express our deep and sincere condolences to the family ... for their loss. We are very sorry for what has happened," Rhys Holleran, the network's chief executive officer (2Day FM), said in Monday's statement.
The Chairman and management of the Hospital where the Duchess was receiving treatment, the King Edward VII Hospital, have criticized the actions of the DJs which they say led to the nurse's death. There have also been a string of condemnations trailing the prank call and the subsequent tragic fallout.
In light of this, the radio network has cancelled the show and said the two DJ's "will not return to the airwaves until further notice," the statement from the network, Southern Cross Austereo, said. The company also suspended all prank calls, pulled advertising and ordered a comprehensive review of relevant policies and processes.
Saldanha worked at King Edward VII's Hospital for more than four years, and she was described as an "excellent nurse," well-respected by co-workers. The hospital statement had said it had been supporting her through this difficult time, following criticisms of her role in the affair, when some people condemned her for even falling for what was termed, "the worst accent of the Queen ever"
Here'e what tugs at my brain cells: If the hospital supported her and did not put any undue pressure on her as a result of the prank call, then WHY DID SHE COMMIT SUICIDE?!
She had a good job and a loving family: What could have prompted her to kill herself?
Was it truely a suicide, and if not: WHO COULD'VE WANTED HER DEAD?!
What is it about the crank call that could've necessitated the taking of a life?!
What other factors (if any) were at play which could have triggered the suicide?
QUESTIONS. . . QUESTIONS. . . QUESTIONS!!!
A postmortem examination will be held this week, and maybe then some light will be shed on this whole unsavoury affair
. . . And all because someone got pregnant. . .
