Pacifism & The Police FORCE?

Nigeria's Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, has put out a warning to all police personnel on the excessive use of force in the discharge of their duties.

The head honcho of Nigeria's police warned against the unjustifiable application of lethal weapons which negated the standing rules of engagement.

He gave the warning in a circular addressed to all Zonal Assistant Inspectors General of Police, Command Commissioners of Police, Heads of Department and Formations across the country.

Abubakar warned that officers who violated the rules of use of weapons would be punished, according to the circular, a copy of which was made available to newsmen on Friday.

The IG urged officers and men of the force to be mindful of the constitutional rights of the citizenry, while performing their statutory duties.

Ooookay. . .

While the man was busy 'reminding', 'reiterating' and 'resolving', the police rank and file, as well as the hierarchy, have gone on with 'business as usual'.

Apparently the big boss' words don't mean squat!

Anyway, while we're on the issue of 'warnings', he might want to take out time to 'warn' his 'people' NOT to cause any avoidable 'accidental discharges' against civilians with cell phones.

With this new trend of video evidence against corrupt police officers making the rounds, police men are bound to get trigger happy whenever they see someone with a cell phone in their hands during the course of making their pecuniary 'demands'

If you witness a policeman in the 'act', and you have your cell phone in your hands, do yourself a favour. . .

. . . Put it in the deepest, farthest reaches of your pocket!
