Kano State Kicks Out 'Okadas'
It would appear that the Kano State Government is experiencing a knee-jerk reaction, 'cos following the attack on the Emir of Kano, the state governmnet has banned the use of motorcycles in the state.
They announced the ban on the use of motorcycles, popularly called Achaba, for commercial purposes in the city.
Kano reportedly has the highest number of commercial motorcycles in the country with conservative estimates putting the number of riders in the state at about one million.
The ban follows similar adoptions by state governments which they say curbs incidents of crime.
Many crimes, particularly attacks on security operatives in the Northern Nigerian State, were carried out by men on motorcycles.

Glad someone in Kano is thinking. Problem is: Someone is thinking TOO HARD. If they're goign to throw that many number of people into the unemployment market. . . in a society with a high potential for Islamic insurgency, then you don't need a soothsayer to tell you what's next for the people of Kano State.
Personally, I believe they just freaked out after their traditional head, the Emir, was attacked.
Any government which has the guts to take this kind of decision would do well to engage those displaced in meaningful and productive ventures, otherwise Kano State might quickly become the next Borno State.
This panic action just buttresses the point in some quarters that when governments take decisions, they don't do so for the sake of the governed. . .
. . . They do so for themselves.
