Africa Cup Of Nations Starts This Saturday!!!
The African football community is in a frenzy once again, as the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2013 football tournament kicks off this Saturday, January 19, 2013!
Soccer City, South Africa will host the opening ceremony and game of the tournament between the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, and Cape Verde, in group A of the 29th Africa Cup of Nations holding from January 19 to February 10, 2013. A maximum of seven venues will be used in this year's games, dubbed the Orange Cup, South Africa 2013.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be participating in this year's tournament to pick the best football team in Africa (thank God!), and to do that, they first of all, have to go past teams in their Group C stage like Zambia (the defending champions), Bourkina Faso and Ethiopia.
Easy, right?
Ehhhhh!!! maybe not. The Super Eagles' climb to the group stages of the tournament proper comes with a commensurate climb in our collective Blood Pressures.
They're looking for a victim to kill. . . not me.
While I'm just going to enjoy the games as much as possible, I'll not get my hopes up for the Super Eagles winning the cup.
Kinda difficult to do when they score a goal, making you believe they're going to do it, only to play badly, lose the match and crash out of the tournament.
Then they come home with a bronze coloured medal which they want you to apply all your powers of mental visualization on, and see it as gold.
Fat chance. Gold is gold and Bronze is, well. . . BRONZE!
Sort of like Arsenal. . . oops! I didn't go there: That was my evil twin talking.
For football lovers: It's the 2013 AFCON again. . . Let's just watch the games and have fun!
