Yaya Toure Is African Footballer Of The Year

No, He's not a Nigerian; Cot d'Ivoire's Yaya Toure has won the 2012 Confederation of African Football (CAF) African Footballer of the Year Award.

The 29 year old Manchester City midfielder took home the coveted prize for the second year running, beating fellow countryman and teammate Didier Drogba to second place, and Christopher Katongo of Zambia to third.

If you're instrumental in guiding your club to their first  English Premiership crown in 44 years, then you've gotta get something, right?

His crucial double against Newcastle in May made for a dramatic chapter in City’s championship bid as the club ultimately edged out bitter rival Manchester United on goal differential in a nailbitting finish.

"I have a lot of emotion. I think this night is so special for me" he said, after climbing the stage to accept his award in Ghana's capital, Accra.

Toure is a versatile footballer who can play in any number of positions in the midfield and even attack.

Their narrow loss to Zambia for the title in the African Nations Cup notwithstanding, Toure's consistency for club and country makes him a very deserving recipient of the award.

Nigerian players. . . eat your heart out!
