Nigeria Is $700 Million Richer!!!
The Swiss Government has said that it has returned the sum of $700 million stolen by the late dictator, General Sani Abacha, fifteen years after his death.
This statement was made by the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Hans-Rudolf Hodel at a media briefing in Abuja yesterday. Not only that he said that his country had begun proceedings in Geneva against one of Abacha's sons, Abba, for allegedly sponsoring a criminal organization, but did not give further details.
During the briefing, he denied the existence of fresh $1 billion being alluded to by former President Olusegun Obasanjo as still being held by the Swiss banks. . . (which means they owe us nadah!)
He then expressed the hope that the repatriated funds would not be embezzled by corrupt officials of benefiting nations.
. . . he should've just ended it there.
We're really ambivalent about monies being returned back to the country, because we question government's 'judicious' use of such funds.
Hey, maybe they could plough the money into the building of the proposed new Banquet Hall in Aso Rock Villa. . . (which they say will cost 2 billion naira!)
Or keep it for GEJ's re-election campaign for 2015 (so we don't have to spend 'our' money, of course).
I'm sure they'll put the money to 'good' use.
