Court Rules Against Okada Riders

The All Nigeria Auto Bike Commercial Owners and Workers Association's challenge of the Lagos government's commercial motorbike restrictions in the state suffered a heavy blow on Thusrday, when a Lagos High Court backed the constitutionality of the Lagos Traffic Law.

Justice Aishat Opesanwo of the Ikeja high Court upheld the constitutionality of the Lagos Traffic Law, saying it did do violate anybody's rights.

The commercial motocyclists had come together under the banner of ANACOWA to seek legal redress and stop the Lagos government from restricting their operations to only 475 routes as spelt out by the traffic law, but this ruling now seems to have grounded their resolve, albeit temporarily.

Counsel to ANACOWA, Bamidele Aturu will head to the appeal court in an attempt to overturn the verdict.

We don't know which way the coin will turn, but what we do know is that Gidi dwellers are getting fitter by the day, and we're not liking it.

Transport in the Gidi metropolis should've been beefed up before taking the okada riders off the streets.

At this rate, Gidi is going to be the fittest city in Africa by the end of 2012.
