Simply put, Talent speaks! And West African Idol winner Timi Dakolo has got buckloads of it without question. Luckily, I was in PH attending the Future Awards when the world premiere of Timi's new song, ‘Great Nation’ screened at the atrium (I was actually standing next to him in awe with arms folded), since then, I have been wondering why the video hadn’t gone mainstream, but finally this morning I received notification, and what a relief it is to share with you all this commendable piece of work by one of the 'few good Artistes' Gidi can point at with pride.
Seriously, this guy has got soul for days … C’mon, Teddy Pendergrass ain't got nothing on Timi, OK, maybe I am pushing it a little. . yeah, but Teddy's long gone, abi?
And as if the song isn’t enough, Clarence Peters does a masterful job at cinematically articulating Timi’s message in pinpoint fashion! Well done guys (raising both my arms with thumbs up). If Nigerians are to become a Great People with a Great Nation, we all would not only need to embody the values of what Timi and Clarence just preached, i.e exemplary work, but more so, practice in earnest what we truly believe, just as these two guys did. The results lie for all who have eyes to see.
I think most of the other artistes in Gidi should borrow a leaf and begin to help reshape our national psyche, especially that of the youths (I mean, there is little one can do to change the selfish mindset of the ‘rotten round belly bullies' higher up). This is good work with a great message; let's have more of it from the circuit.
Music is Art, which can influence our thoughts and thus induce positive action. Thank you for the positivity, Timi/Clarence; you are great Artists, and as a wise man once said, “A True Artist Can Never Fail as it is a success to become one.”
Bravo!
