Omotola's Secret Life Up On Reality TV!

Popular Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde is set to air her own reality TV show called 'The Real Me' due to hit viewers of Africa Magic Entertainment Channel on December 6.

'The Real Me' will be aired for a total of 13 weeks, and will give viewers a bird's eye view of her life. Omosexy says, "You will get to see everything. What we are doing is very real. It’s basically my whole life. The parts where I’m taking care of the kids, the parts where I’m taking care of the home, the parts when I'm working, the parts where I’m yelling. It’s crazy. My life is crazy"

What Omotola is offering can best be summed up in these words, "Been there, done that" It would appear that artistes these days prefer to hide under the banner of 'safety' rather than 'innovation', which comes with risks, but in Television, creativity should drive the ventures of our 'stars'; it should be the headache that hammers at their temples; the vision that they see whenever they put pen to paper to sign any deal or contract.

What am I really saying? I'm saying; Omotola believes she is a 'star' - and in many ways she is - however, throwing the everyday life of a 'local' personality in our faces all in the name of entertainment, seems to me a bit too 'safe'. It's simple, easy and stressfree; Just place a camera in their faces, shoot. .. and we're good to go; the public will buy it; they'll lap it up!

Really?. . . REALLY?! Is this creative Television at its best. Is this the best an Omotola can offer her teeming fans? Are we that simple-minded, for her to think that all she has to do to get our attention is to shoot her daily life - Omotola changing diapers?!. . . please! Where did talent and innovative programming go to?

She's a star, so she thinks that on the strenght of that, we'll want to tune in to the channel, sit down, grab a bottle of soda and popcorns. . . and watch her chase her chlldren all over the house, or hop into a plane and fly off somewhere. . . where's the attraction in that?

Maybe I'm just hating. Maybe she's done her homework well, Maybe Nigerians like that sort of thing. . . nah! Don't think so! I believe with every fibre in my being that the Nigerian viewing public (and indeed Africa) have become a lot more sophisticated. Our need for entertainment has gotten more diverse, and the only thing that can feed our ravenous appetite is CREATIVITY. Give us something we haven't seen before.

What Omotola wants to do has been done before, and unless she's Oprah, I don't think she can pull it off.

. . . then again, I've been known to be wrong.
