MBWN - Pageant Of The Insecure
This unnecessary event, Miss Big World Nigeria (MBWN) 2012, now in its 6th year, took place on Saturday, November 10th, 2012 at the Sheraton Hotel, Wuse Abuja, Nigeria. I don't need to tell you what it was all about. . .
MBWN is organised by Skiesvision Communications Limited as a yearlly event supposedly aimerd at giving beig and beautiful women a sense of belonging by recognizing and appreciating their natural plus-sized forms.
What a load of B!
This is Naija. We love our 'big' women, and I don't think we need some wanabe top shot organisation creating an artificial buzz around the issue of size, just so they can have a reason to 'organise' a show.
These women didn't need to parade themselves around, 'cos we love them just the way they are. They didn't need the pageant to give 'big' women a sense of belonging. . . they already belong with us, in our society: WE'VE ALREADY ACCEPTED THEM! Plus-sized women have always been a part of the Nigerian society, and anyone who doesn't like it can go hug a transformer!
The women who participated in this pageant are the minute portion of plus-sized women who aren't proud of their size. Looking at them strutting around, carrying themselves like they're slim, trying to look all model like. . . that's just sad. I pity them. They bought into all that hype about trying to give big women a sense of belonging.
If you feel you 'belong' then you wouldn't be found dead anywhere near that show. It's just a grand orchestrated comedy for 'big' women of very low self esteem (who think participating will somehow make them feel appreciated), designed to give'pregnant' senators, ministers and business tycoons (who themselves love 'big' women) an avenue to feed their lust and ogle 'big' women for a change.
I appreciate the aim of the pageant, but it's one which is NOT necessary. Nigeria has and will always have big women, and a society which accepts them. Sure more people are seeing the benefits of reducing weight, but that does not take anything away from those who're 'big'
We know this, and we don't need a pageant for 'big' women to make them feel even more insecure.
And get this: The winner went home with 200, 000 naira. 200, 000 naira! Seriously?! And they want them to appreciate their plus-sized forms. . . these people should just bury their heads in shame.
MBWN 2013. . . please spare us the sight!
