Legendary Puerto Rican Boxer, Hector 'Macho' Camacho may be confirmed dead soon. The Boxer who was shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting on Tuesday in Puerto Rico had been receiving intensive medical attention owing to the critical nature of his condition, but now, his representative says he will be taken off life support today.
According to the rep, Camacho's family made the decision to remove him from life support after doctors declared he was brain dead. The rep says the family is currently making funeral arrangements, and are deciding between holding the services in either Puerto Rico or New York.
The former boxing champion was reportedly in the passenger seat of a car, when another vehicle rolled up and someone opened fire, striking Camacho several times in the neck and face. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he went into cardiac arrest.
The driver of Camacho's car was killed in the attack. Police say they recovered 10 bags of cocaine from the car, 9 of which were on the driver's person.
During his boxing career, Camacho won Super Lightweight, Lightweight and Junior Welterweight world titles in the 1980s and fought high-profile bouts against Felix Trinidad, Julio Cesar Chavez and Sugar Ray Leonard. Camacho knocked out Leonard in 1997, ending the former champ's final comeback attempt.
