Two Electrocuted In Gidi
It was the scene of a most bizarre tragedy yesterday at Ikosi area of Lagos, when a high tension wire snapped off a pole and electrocuted a staff of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) and a security guard.
The shouts of "fire" "fire" from the landlord of the affected compound where the cable fell, at 34, Aladelola Street, Ketu, attracted the guard, Garuba, who rushed out and beheld his landlord's Peugeot 504 car on fire as a result of the cable which dropped on it. As he tried to put out the fire, he stepped on the cable and was instantly electrocuted.
Eye witnesses also said the PHCN staff, identified as Mr Oshinjirin, rushed out of his flat when he heard the shout of fire, with a bucket of water, only to also step on the live wire.
Some say the guard might have been trying to save Mr. Oshinjirin, who they also say rushed out at about 5am when the fire started, and tried to remove his Toyota Corolla car which was parked close to the Peugeot 504.
Whatever the story, the fact remains that they were both electrocuted by a live tension cable.
It was indeed a sad day for residents of the area.
We pray the souls of the departed rest in peace.
