Nigeria Are African Champions!

The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Sunday emerged African champions, beating Bourkina Faso 1-0 in the final match of the African Cup of Nations.

Sunday Mba, the Warri Wolves player from Nigeria's domestic league, gave the Eagles the winner with a 40th minute strike.

Pundits, football analysts and fans NEVER gave the Nigerian team any chance of giving a good show, much less winning the cup, so this victory came as a pleasant surprise to many, for a nation which had to wait for 19 years before winning its 3rd Nations Cup.

If you recall, the Super Eagles golden generation of payers last won the cup in 1994, when Stephen Keshi, the skipper of the team then, lifted the trophy for the second time.

The Bourkina Faso team attempted to disrupt the victory celebrations of the Nigerians, planned out right after the 4-1 win over the Malians in the semi-final, but a certain Sunday Mba said. . .

. . . Mba (no), not this Sunday!

Stephen Keshi has now become the second coach to win the coveted trophy both as a player and as a coach.

Jonathan Pitroipa of Bourkina Faso took home player of the tournament: Nigeria's Victor Moses walked away with the Fair Play Award. . .

. . . And Nigeria's Emmanuel Emenike grabbed the highest goal scorer award with 4 goals in the tournament.

On a ligher note: Nigeria' goal tender, Vincent Enyeama promised to dance naked if they win the tournament.

Now they've won. . . The girls are waiting expectantly to see if he'll walk the walk.

Congratulations Nigeria!!!
