Govt. Radar Falls On Eateries

The Lagos State House of Assembly is making moves to regulate the activities of Fast Food producers by the enactment of a law, very, very soon.

House member, Mr Suuru Avoseh, and Chairman of the House Committee on Health Services, told the News Agency of Nigera (NAN) on Sunday that most of the foods prepared by various restaurants were "junk foods".

His words, not ours..

He said these junk foods were harmful to human health and that the House would strive to emulate the National Assembly which, he noted, was planning to ban the importation, distribution and consumption of energy drinks in the country.

Avoseh said that, "junk foods should not replace our normal meals, as most of them contain too much fat and sugar which are not only unhealthy but are also addictive."

The lawmaker said that many people had been addicted to eating junk foods, adding that such dietary habits often resulted in either obesity or diabetes, while posing serious health threats to the body.

Avoseh reiterated that junk foods did not contain the nutrients which the body needed to stay healthy.

Duhh! We know already!!

Avoseh noted that a lot of money was spent annually on the health sector because of diseases which could be prevented through purposeful policies and laws.

We didn't know THAT!

The long arm of Gidi government's good governance is hell bent on reaching everyone: from individuals to corporate entities.

Now fast food outlets need to be on their guard: the food business is NOT looking so good anymore.

While we thank the Gidi government for their insight into the business of making food for consumption and safeguarding our health, we believe that an ACTIVE task force which regularly monitors such outlets for conformity to health standards is good enough.

A law is an overkill.

If the task force did their jobs, the law wouldn't be necessary.

Just saying. . . afterall, what do I know.
