Uba-Maduka Rift Stymies House Of Reps

THE House of Representatives Thursday failed in its attempt to resolve the dispute between the Chairman of Capital Oil and Gas Limited, Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah and his Coscharis Motors Ltd counterpart, Mr. Cosmas Maduka, over a failed deal.

House’s Public Petitions Committee suspended hearing on the matter due to the absence of some invited agencies of government and objections by lawyers to two corporate organizations, which were mentioned in the petition by Ubah.

Besides, the committee said it would not deliberate on the petition in the absence of the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and Access Bank Nigeria Limited’s Managing Director, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, both of whom were said to have travelled abroad.

Shortly after the committee, headed by Uzor Azubuike (Abia, PDP) started sitting, counsel to Coscharis, Osita Mbamalu, objected to the hearing of the petition on the ground that court processes were pending on the matter.

The committee quickly went into a 10-minute closed-door consultation.

After the short meeting, the chairman of the committee ruled that the hearing should be adjourned till Thursday next week.

Azubuike directed the Access Bank and Coscharis chiefs to furnish the committee with documents on court processes on the matter on or before next Tuesday.

He said: “We are standing down the hearing for today. We are adjourning the hearing to Thursday next week. We want Coscharis and Access Bank to furnish us with court processes on the matter on or before Tuesday next week.”
