Death On The Roads At Christmas
While we celebrate the Christmas in joy and revelry, sad news emanating from the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) states that a total of 94 lives have been lost in 191 road crashes recorded in the last 5 days across the country!
Mr. Osita Chidoka, the Corps Marshall and Chief Executive of the FRSC gave this information in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital during the aerial monitoring of traffic situation on the Lokoja-Abuja highway.
He blamed the crashes on speed violation by road users, expressing their attitude on the roads as 'unacceptable'
We think it's unacceptable too.
He added that "It is an attitudinal issue as this year witnessed rehabilitation of major corridors of the highways, people tend to disregard traffic laws bordering on speed limits and accelerate beyond recommended speed thus resulting to the figures we have witnessed the last 5 days. We have devised measures to address this unpleasant development".
94 deaths in the last 5 days? That's not cheering stats. What do we have to do for people to realize that we have to end this stream of road deaths during the yuletide celebrations.
It's called a celebration, people! For the mentally impaired, that means you NEED to take whatever measures to AVOID anything that could make you CRY, when everyone else is SMILING.
Take the advice of the Corps Marshall and reduce your speed and obey traffic regulations so as to reduce carnage during the festive period.
Let's get a little saner on the roads, shall we?
