Power To The People!

Gidi dwellers now have something good to look forward to: The Lagos State government has said that it will scale up electricity generation within the state to at least 3, 000 megawatts within the next two years.

This statement was made by the State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Taofiq Tijani, during a formal graduation ceremony in honour of the first graduating set of 15 young electrical engineers under the Youth Energy Career Programme (YECP) run by the Lagos State Electricity Board, LSEB, and sponsored by Senator Gbenga Ashafa, with Siemens, a global player in the power sector as trainer partner.

The inference from this statement is that we'll have to wait two years into the future before we can enjoy significant, lasting power supply. Funny how good things always have a way of being in front of us and never with us. Politicians, Bureaucrats and Leaders always seem to enjoy cavorting with a 'Will do' attitude, rather than possessing a 'Have done' antecedent.

Well, we'll continue to 'look forward' to good things, after all, we are a hardy people, aren't we?
