The MTN Ultimate Wonder Promo has come to an end and a winner has emerged! She is 24 year old Ebube Essien-Garricks, a student of College of Health Science and Technology, Rivers State.
Ebube won the ultimate prize of a Cessna 182T in the much touted 'Mother of all promos', at an elaborate and transparent draw held at the Golden Plaza, Ikoyi, Head Office of MTN in the full glare of journalists, Nigerian Lottery Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Communications Commission. When notified of her good fortune via a phone call, she immediately opted for the cash value of the plane, which is 64 million naira. She was overwhelmed and full of emotions as she showered praises on MTN, describing the ultimate prize a true wonder coming just in time for christmas.
The NCC’s directive on promos did not affect the MTN’s Ultimate Wonder Promo as the promo, which started on 10th August, 2012 had actually ended 31st of October, 2012.
I did note something about the promo, which I'm yet to get clarification on: Weeks into the promo on TV, the picture of the plane displayed was that of a Cessna executive jet, (valued at no less than $20 million), but subsequently, it was switched to that of the Cessna 182T, a much smaller plane by comparison
Were the advertisers unaware of this mistake at the onset (or was it even a mistake)?
Whose idea was it to get people all fired up with the image of an executive jet, only to change it later on to a smaller one?
How does MTN's philosophy of enriching lives justify handing out 64 million naira to just one person? Couldn't many more lives have been enriched if that sum were spread out over a group pf persons rather than just one?
I'm still a bit baffled. However, MTN should be commended for doing something no one else has done before. . . they seem to excel in that regard.
