Retired CIA Director, Gen. David Petraeus runs the risk of facing military prosecution after admitting an extra-marital affair which he conducted with his biographer, Paula Broadwell, both of whom are married.
The Ret. General admitted to the affair, but his former spokesman retired US Army Col. Steve Boylan told ABC News that the affair began several months after his retirement from the army in August 2011, and ended four months ago. 40 year old Broadwell worked with Petraeus as his biographer during the six trips she took with him to Afghanistan, and now, according to Article 134 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice which reprimands conduct "of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces", the general could face prosecution if the FBI can prove that he carried on the affair while serving in the Army.
In Nigeria, an Army officer being prosecuted for an affair while in office is a rarity, I daresay, an impossibility. An army officer's penchant for infidelity is legendary in these parts, in fact, some see it as a license for the act, hence it's not impossible to see military men with several wives, or with children from various women, so you would ask, Why the noise? Perhaps it's time we looked at placing such a code in the military conduct handbook to check their social excesses. But then again, if we do that, then they could find other more socially distructive ways to release their pent up 'energies'. (Aren't they doing that already?).
Maybe we should just let sleeping dogs lie, becasue if we don't, the question will be: Who will bell the cat?
