He Fell Right Into Gidi Governor's Clutches

The Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, on Wednesday turned law enforcement officer, when he arrested a police officer who violated the traffic law by riding his 100 CC motorcycle on the Agege Motor Road, in Ikeja.

Agege Motor road is one of the 475 restricted roads on the Lagos traffic law signed into effect on August 2nd. The officer, Police Sergeant Ebahan Johnson, was accosted by the governor at the Airport Bus Stop, Ikeja, during an inspection tour of on-going projects in the Lagos-West Senatorial District. He was riding a red Bajaj motorcycle.

He tried to resist arrest, but succumbed when he realized it was the governor who accosted him.

After the arrest, the governor said, "There is no one who would be above the law. If anyone cannot submit himself to the law of the state, then that person should please, leave the state."

If you think this was just a flash in the pan, then you need to hear him again, ". . . As we move on the road, if we see anyone violating the law, we will stop and arrest him"

Chilling words for any Policeman who thinks he can violate the law at will. Why can't law enforcement officers get it? You'd think that the military officer who was arrested by the governor months back for driving on the BRT lane was lesson enough.

They don't get it. . . but this officer will, though, 'cos he's going to be handed over to the Commissioner of Police for proper prosecution.

He may as well start considering a career change.
