Gov. Fashola Turns 'Kalakuta Republic' To A Museum

Governor Babtunde Fashola of Lagos State on Friday became the latest member of the 'Kalakuta Republic' when he paid a visit to the Kalakuta Republic Museum dedicated to the memory of the late Afrobeat icon, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

Following the Lagos State's decision in October to turn the Gbemisola street, Ikeja residence to a museum in honour of the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, the governor paid a visit to the residence in
support of his belief that the memory of Fela should be preserved for posterity.

According to the governor, the building will help oncoming generations connect with and relive the Fela experience. Fashola, who spoke with newsmen at the Gbemisola Street, Ikeja location of Kalakuta Republic, said the decision to give the building a face lift is in realisation that more could be done with the legacy of Nigeria’s biggest cultural and artistic export to the world.

He was given a tour of the building by Fela's son, Femi Anikulapo-Kuti, and his sister, Yemi.
