Eva's Exodus From Trybe Records

Earlier in the year when El Dee the Don took the much applauded step to sign on the talented Eva Alordiah on the new look Trybe Records 2.0, we all felt there was going to be a happy matrimony of great talent and expert managerial savvy that would last. . . well, maybe not a lifetime, but at least we expected it would go the length of a couple of albums under the label. . . but it didn't.

Eva Alordiah, the erstwhile newly crowned 'First Lady' of Trybe Records (after Sasha carried the crown), has now parted ways with the record label. That's great, that's just great: another woman bites the dust. The press release issued by the label reads thus:

"Trybe Records and Eva Alordiah have agreed to terminate her recording contract effective immediately. Trybe Records' vision is to discover and nurture the talents of our artistes while operating with purpose, valuing relationships with our partners within the industry, and being persistent in creating and releasing quality music.

Unfortunately over the past 5 months, Eva's vision has not aligned with ours, and thus, both parties have agreed to separate. We wish Eva the best in her future endeavors and plan on continuing towards our goal of creating quality music for Nigeria and beyond."

Great words. . . well written, expertly worded. . . . but saying NOTHING! That's good enough for me, 'cos it leaves me room to speculate, and as you well know in this part of the world, speculations are never far from the truth. Let's dissect this PR shall we. The press release rolls out the label's vision, in which it talks about, 'discovering and nurturing talents. . . no problem there; they certainly discovered Eva (if you can say that), and probably tried to nurture her talent, okay. Then it goes on to say something which is key: '. . . while operating with purpose, valuing relationships with our partners within the industry. . .' Do we take this to mean that Eva either had issues with other artistes the label partnered with (perhaps refusing to work with them), or had personal issues with these partners in the industry which made her position in the label untenable? Did something happen between her and someone, someone whose presence would guarantee immense returns to the label (not to say that Trybe Records is poor, but there's always room for more)?

Tongues are wagging, and saying that the record label is broke and that El Dee is WASHING his artistes so they could look squeaky clean for the clothesline. Still others say that Trybe wanted 70% of her income on endorsements, shows and everything else, and that they have way too many artistes on the label to handle; maybe they were banking on Eva to bail them out? Just saying.

Perhaps the presence of a lady within the male-dominated group was too much for the testosterone riddled label to handle, cos lat's face it; Eva is a whole lot of woman, I tell you! She was coming up. . . fast, and some men's penis just can't handle that level of thrust and speed. You'd have thought Trybe Records could handle it, having had Sasha on the team and made a good work of it (even though she blew while on another label - Storm Records)

This part may actually be true: They say she has an attitude, and that she thinks too highly of herself  and when you bring that much feminine swag into a room full of testosterone chugging men, the result shouldn't be that difficult to define. Yours truly had an encounter with her in a scenario which lends some credence to this view.

The questions are endless, and I daresay we haven't heard the last of it.
