National Stadiums For Concessioning

The Federal Government of Nigeria has concluded plans to concession the National Stadiums in Abuja and Lagos to private sector investors, stating that it can no longer fund their maintenance for effective uitilisation.

Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdulahi, who presented the progress report of his ministry to a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

The minister stated that the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) was already working out the framework for concessioning the facilities.

He added: "The ICRC has started advertising projects that could come up under concessioning and they told me that the two stadia , Lagos and Abuja are among the next round of advertising they will do for concessioning.

"So, the direction we are heading on these two facilities is concessioning  to the private sector people that can operate them."

Concessioning seems to be the order of the day as the government appears to be losing its ability to fund and manage various public utilities, putting their management and operations in the hands of private capitalistic cannibals.

There's even been rumours that the National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos is at threat of being turned over to private hands for reconstruction into a hotel. . .

. . . Imagine that.

As for the National Stadium Lagos, we should at least be glad that when private hands get a hold of it, we can finally see an end to its use as one gigantic public toilet!

Oh, yeah: Lest I forget. . . We can also stop giving life to green algaes, protozoans, and single-celled organisms in its swimming pool.
