Reps Ban The Use Of The Dollar. . .

In what could be termed as a bold move, Nigeria's House of Representatives has moved to ban the use of foreign currencies as a mode of exchange in the country.

The resolution followed a motion by Representative Nadu Karibo which was unanimously adopted.

The lawmakers decried the growing trend of the use of some foreign currencies like the US dollar for payment of school fees, hotel bills, rent, real estate and purchases in bars in the country.

This trend they say has led to the high demand of these currencies, especially the dollar and its contribution to the weakening of the Naira against such currencies and its resultant negative effects on the economy.

The Reps are indeed on to something. It amazes us how a nation would demand a foreign currency as means of exchange, when the national currency is STILL in use.

If anyone wants to use the dollar, they should take a trip to the United States. . .

. . . This is Nigeria, and our currency is the Naira!

Take it, or leave it!
